Lions Club holds installation of officers banquet

The Donna-Weslaco Evening Lions had its annual installation of officers banquet recently at Cecilia’s Restaurant in Donna.

The speaker for the event was state Sen. Eddie Lucio. Special guests were Valley Chamber of Commerce Director Bill Summers; District Governor Helen Muse and Partner in Service Ralph Muse from the Harlingen Amigas Lions Club.

Lucio spoke of the great service that is being provided by Lions locally and throughout the world. A proud Lions Club member for many years, Lucio explained how the Lions are well known for their quest

against blindness and of their motto, “We serve.” The senator formally presented a Texas state flag that was flown at the state capitol to outgoing Lions President Ernest Lugo Jr.

Lions Club Officers for the coming year are Jose E. Lugo Sr., president; Santos Delgado, vice president; Cynthia Balli, treasurer; Vanessa Sandoval, secretary; Luther Medina, lion tamer; Felipe Escobedo, tail twister and Ernest Lugo Jr., membership chairman.

Awards were presented by Ernest Lugo Jr. to lion members for their achievements during the year. Also receiving a special plaque of appreciation was Bill Billman for his continuous support throughout the years.
